Among the many dubious water treatment techniques are so-called electro-magnetic or "Scale-Free" water treatment systems. These types of systems are sold by several companies that provide little--if any--data to back up their technology, and the little information they do have usually violates basic scientific principles.
These systems often supposedly work on the idea of magnetic pulses or electrical charges sent into the problem water, supposedly preventing hardness particles in the water from forming large enough particles to become a problem. Often they even claim that they'll reverse the build-up of scale that's already collected inside pipes.
